Safeguarding and Prevent

Birmingham Electrical Training is committed to providing an inclusive positive environment that does not tolerate bullying or harassment of its learners in any form.

All learners during induction to their apprenticeship sign the BET Code of Conduct which states the desired behaviour that is expected of them during their apprenticeship and while they are in our centre. Learners are also made aware of the bullying and safeguarding policy along with the correct way in which learners can talk or report bullying or safeguarding issues to BET staff in confidence.

All BET staff have undertaken basic safeguarding training, all have completed DBS checks and our designated safeguarding officer has undertaken the relevant Level 3 course.

All students are issued with a BET ID card detailing their Training Officer contact details, safeguarding officer and local safeguarding department details.

If a student is being bullied or harassed or if you are a fellow student and witness the bullying or harassment of another individual, you need to inform a staff member and follow the steps below.

  1. Speak to someone that you trust, this could be a fellow apprentice, tutor, training officer or one of our recruitment team.
  2. Check procedures for both BET and your employer, our safeguarding policy and procedure is displayed on this website.
  3. Inform your training officer, they will be able to address this problem.
  4. Contact our dedicated Designated Safeguarding Officer – Jack Sims on 0121 280 2073 or e-mail Jack.Sims@betltd.co.uk
  5. Contact Birmingham Safeguarding Trust for out of hours support.

We will support and address the issue with a matter of sensitively, importance and confidence.

Safeguarding Procedure

Inform our Safeguarding Officer or any other relevant staff members i.e. Management.

Safeguarding & Prevent Policy

Prevent

Training providers have an important part to play in both educating learners about extremism and recognising when pupils start to become radicalised. In March 2015, new statutory duties were placed on educational providers by the Counter Terrorism and Security Act (2015) which means they must work to prevent learners being drawn into extremism.

Safeguarding learners from all risks of harm is an important part of a training provider’s work and protecting them from extremism is one aspect of that.

Birmingham Electrical Training leaders, staff and learners are all trained in the Prevent Duty and how to recognise signs of radicalisation or extremism and respond appropriately.

Part of the Prevent Duty is the promotion of the British Values of Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance. These are promoted throughout the training provider through the general culture of BET, the teaching, the learner code of conduct, displays around the building and classroom discussions and activities.

BET’s Prevent single point of contact is our Designated Safeguarding Lead and all students are issued with a BET ID card detailing the Safeguarding lead’s contact details along with those for out of hours agencies.

If learners are worried about the radicalisation of themselves or somebody else they should follow BET’s Safeguarding procedure and talk to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or contact the authorities directly if concerned about an immediate threat.
